Nose Hill
Calgary, Alberta
June 4, 2026
Distance: 6.6 km (4.1 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 70 m (230 ft)
Nose Hill is almost too easy, but dozens of adventurers have added it to their list of successful summits, and we thought we should too. It was Dinah’s first summit since her second knee replacement surgery. After four months of recovery, she felt sufficiently strong enough to do a long walk.
Peakbagger.com places the summit at a nondescript flat spot, but we found a point that appears equally high 500 m southeast. The slight bump with a 360° view was more akin to a real summit, and that’s where I took my panorama.
We parked at the 14th St NW trailhead. After ascending stairs, the gravel path levelled off, and we crossed the flat expanse west to the Shaganappi Trail trailhead. At 1240 m, the trailhead is oddly higher than the summit of Nose Hill. We turned left onto a path, dropped down, and headed southeast. We passed the summit on Peakbagger.com and walked to a viewpoint with a bench. From there, using various paths, we made our way back to our car. Although the trip was little more than a nature walk, it was a pleasant outing that made way for more summits as Dinah slowly regains her strength.
