Zeppelin Hill
Kananaskis, Alberta
October 9, 2025
Distance: 9.7 km (6.0 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 234 m (768 ft)

After learning it opened this year, Dinah and I jumped at the opportunity to hike the west loop of the Jumped Up Loops. Using the trails Jumpingpound Loop, Trampled Under Foot and Kashmir, we reached the top of Zeppelin Hill. This was our second visit; we climbed it in 2022 when there were no trails and the hill was unnamed.

Although the trails are designed for mountain bikes, it didn’t detract from our enjoyment. Naturally, we had to be cautious of mountain bikers, but the riders were friendly and courteous. We saw no other hikers.

We started at the western trailhead for Jumpingpound Loop and followed a path lined with yellowing aspens. We soon reached a junction and turned left onto Trampled Underfoot. We tramped up a wooded slope to a viewpoint. We continued north up the trail before it turned east to reach the edge of a meadow where we spied Zeppelin Hill. The trail climbs an open slope to a partially treed summit.

Trampled Under Foot, Kashmir, and Ten Years Gone – trails revering Led Zeppelin songs – converge at the top, where several cyclists gathered, some relaxing on log benches. Everyone was in high spirits on this beautiful autumn day. We chatted and joked with a few riders before descending Kashmir and Jumpingpound Loop back to the parking lot. We’re looking forward to returning to the Jumped Up Loops to hike the east loop.
