Hailstone Butte Traverse
Kananaskis, Alberta
May 12, 2002

Distance: 12.4 km (7.7 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 591 m
(1939 ft)

We set off to climb Sentinel Peak, but after hiking up the road west of Hailstone Butte, we realized the snow was too deep to go that far. We settled on traversing Hailstone Butte.

After ascending – post-holing in deep snow – the north end of Hailstone Butte, we hiked along the ridge and then dropped down a drainage at the south end on the west slope.

A whole lot of white on this trip

Traversing the ridge south

The ridge seems endless

I created a snowball (mouse over for the result)

I start building another, larger one but it became too big to move (mouse over)
