Mount Collembola and Mount Allan
Kananaskis, Alberta
May 6, 2001
Distance: 22.6 km (14.0 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 1811 m (5942 ft)
The traverse of Mounts Collembola and Allan is a demanding but rewarding ridgewalk. Following the route in Kananaskis Country Guide, we hiked and scrambled up the north ridge of Mount Collembola. From the 2765-metre summit of Collembola, we continued north to the col losing nearly 200 m before hiking up almost 300 m to tag the highest point of our trip, Mount Allan. The route continues down the north end of Allan before rejoining the approach trail.
Postscript: My 2016 trip provides more details on climbing Mount Collembola as well a picturesque visit to the Jubilee Tarns.
