Mount Baldy Southwest Ridge
Kananaskis, Alberta
December 27, 2003
Distance: 6.3 km (3.9 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 792 m (2598 ft)
On a chilly December day, Dinah and I headed off to climb the West Summit of Mount Baldy from the southwest ridge. We had bagged the West Summit when we did Baldy Traverse in the summer, but this approach would be different. We hiked through the forest and up the rubbly slopes on the southwest ridge before making our way to the ridge crest. We found a cairn on a high point, but the traversing the snow-covered, narrow ridge to the West Summit looked dangerous, so we turned around. However, we enjoyed viewing the wintery scenery under a blue sky.
