Jumped Up Loops

I happened to see your recent reports on Ten Years Gone, Kashmir and Trampled Under Foot.

TYG and Kashmir were built Aug to Oct 2024 and TUF May to July 2025. CMBA (Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance) did the original trail proposals in 2013 (just before the big flood). After a few years on the shelf, our efforts were renewed in 2021 to get the project happening. CMBA did the trail planning, flagging and corridor clearing and the machine building was done by Lifetime Outdoors Inc. This was made possible by grants from AFP. I see you noticed some of the special features left by 3 machine operators, Jame's Giant Mushroom, Megan's Rock Bench (at Zeppelin Hill) and Luke's Rock Ride (near bottom of Trampled Under Foot). The 1.3 km section at the East end up to Solo Hill was hand built by volunteers, partly to save money, but also to grow community spirit and support for the project.

We have proposed 3 reroutes on the original Jumping Pound Loop trails to bypass steep eroded sections. We know more now about sustainable trail development than they did back in ~1979 when the original loop was built.

As you can see, we designed these trails with moderate grades and they are proving popular with families (and older riders like me). Hopefully the Strava riders will stay away so that both hikers and bikers can enjoy these trails.

Glad you enjoyed the new trails.

Cheers,

Don Hill
